Our Week in Pics!

We kicked off our week with an assembly in the large gym!

Students had a lot of fun singing and dancing to songs they've been working on in music! Mr. Vivenzio read the book “The Day You Begin.”

On Tuesday, we had our first "Good Eats" which was held outside next to the garden.

Good Eats is a Farm to School Initiative that provides a hands-on exploration of local food for students. Our class learned all about apples (from Indian Ladder Farm) and discussed the life cycle of the apple and how apple blossoms are pollinated. We got to sample Empire, Macintosh and Snapdragon apples. The Snapdragon was a class favorite!

Mrs. Huntsman also visited our classroom this week for our first Guidance lesson. Students learned all about ways to manage feelings/emotions using The Zones of Regulation. Be sure to ask your child all about it!

Students worked hard this week learning all about the letters Tt, Nn, Rr, and Aa. We learned what sounds these letters make, what words begin with each letter, and how to correctly write each letter. This new learning also paired well with our "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" unit this week which was all about the letters in the alphabet.

In math, we continued our class discussions on numerals 1-10 with a main focus on the correct formation of numerals 1-5. During our morning work time, we have been working on recognizing shapes and their attributes. Students were also introduced to "Math Workstations" this week. These are math centers where students have the opportunity to explore math manipulatives that pair with what we're learning about in our math lessons. Students LOVE these centers and had so much fun this week using them!

We had so much fun outside today using sidewalk chalk to practice writing the letters we learned about this week!

And finally, we ended our week with a fun "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" Name Tree Craft! Students had so much fun making these and adding the letters in their name up the coconut tree!
